Expressed at high levels during embryonic development; in adults, significant expression is found in Schwann cells, meningeal cells, lens and nerve. Mutations are associated with neurofibromatosis type II. Two predominant isoforms and eight minor isoforms are produced by alternatively spliced transcripts.
