SYN2 neuronal phosphoprotein that selectively binds to small synaptic vesicles in the presynaptic nerve terminal and to the cytoskeleton. May function in the regulation of neurotransmitter release and synaptogenesis. Mutations in this gene may be associated with abnormal presynaptic function and schizophrenia. Alternative splicing results in two isoforms. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
