PRP4 a kinase of the DYRK family associated with the spliceosome and the kinetochore. It binds pre-mRNA splicing factors SFRS8, PRP6 and pinin. It is an essential kinase that associates with both the U5 snRNP and the N-CoR deacetylase complexes. It may help coordinate pre-mRNA splicing with chromatin remodeling and transcriptional regulation. PRP4 has recently been shown to be a kinetochore component that is necessary to establish a functional spindle assembly checkpoint, and is necessary for recruitment or maintenance of the checkpoint proteins RPS27, MAD1, and MAD2 at the kinetochores.
