Acts directly on the parathyroid to decrease PTH secretion. Regulator of vitamin-D metabolism. Negatively regulates osteoblast differentiation and matrix mineralization. Belongs to the heparin-binding growth factors family. Expressed in osteogenic cells particularly during phases of active bone remodeling.
