BRSK1 iso2 a serine/threonine protein kinase of the CAMK group. Closely related to AMPK. Activated by the kinase LKB1. Acts as checkpoint kinase upon DNA damage induced by UV or methyl methane sulfonate. Phosphorylates WEE1 and CDC25B in vitro and CDC25C in vitro and in vivo. Translocates from the cytoplasm to the nucleus in response to UV- or MMS-induced DNA damage. BRSK1 and BRSK2 are required for neuronal polarization. Widely expressed with highest levels in the brain and testis. Two alternatively spliced isoforms have been described. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
