Complex I functions in the transfer of electrons from NADH to the respiratory chain. The immediate electron acceptor for the enzyme is believed to be ubiquinone. Belongs to the complex I NDUFA5 subunit family. Expressed in all tissues examined with highest levels in heart, skeletal muscle and brain. 2 alternatively spliced human isoforms have been reported.
