Overview
C/EBP-alpha a bZIP transcription factor which can form homodimers or heterodimers with the related proteins CEBP-beta and CEBP-gamma. Binds to the promoter and modulate the expression of the gene encoding leptin, a protein that plays an important role in body weight homeostasis. Can interact with CDK2 and CDK4, thereby inhibiting these kinases and causing growth arrest in cultured cells. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
Protein type: Transcription factor; DNA binding protein
Cellular Component: Rb-E2F complex; nuclear matrix; nucleus
Molecular Function: RNA polymerase II transcription factor activity, enhancer binding; protein binding; protein homodimerization activity; DNA binding; sequence-specific DNA binding; protein heterodimerization activity; protein complex binding; transcription factor binding; transcription factor activity
Biological Process: transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; embryonic placenta development; macrophage differentiation; viral reproduction; cell maturation; response to glucocorticoid stimulus; negative regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; negative regulation of cell proliferation; response to vitamin B2; acute-phase response; inner ear development; mitochondrion organization and biogenesis; cholesterol metabolic process; organ regeneration; generation of precursor metabolites and energy; transcription, DNA-dependent; cytokine and chemokine mediated signaling pathway; liver development; positive regulation of osteoblast differentiation; white fat cell differentiation; brown fat cell differentiation; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase III promoter; positive regulation of fat cell differentiation; myeloid cell differentiation; positive regulation of transcription from RNA polymerase II promoter; lung development; urea cycle
