Overview
FOXK1 Transcriptional regulator that binds to the upstream enhancer region (CCAC box) of myoglobin gene. Has a role in myogenic differentiation and in remodeling processes of adult muscles that occur in response to physiological stimuli. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
Protein type: DNA binding protein; Transcription factor
Cellular Component: transcription factor complex; nucleolus; nucleus
Molecular Function: RNA polymerase II transcription factor activity, enhancer binding; protein binding; sequence-specific DNA binding; double-stranded DNA binding; magnesium ion binding; transcription factor binding; DNA bending activity
Biological Process: tissue development; muscle development; embryonic development; regulation of transcription factor activity; positive regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; negative regulation of cell growth; negative regulation of transcription, DNA-dependent; cell differentiation; pattern specification process
