Overview
SHOT1 Involved in the generation of internal asymmetric signals required for neuronal polarization. Acts upstream of PI3K (phosphoinositide 3-kinase), by being required for spatially localized PI3K activity. Accumulates asymmetrically in a single neurite before polarization, leading to axon induction for polarization, its absence from the nascent axon's siblings by competition preventing the formation of surplus axons. Interacts with RUFY3. Belongs to the shootin family. 7 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
