CD82
a widespread transmembrane protein of the tetraspanin family. A metastasis-suppressor whose decreased expression may be involved in malignant progression. Suppresses tumor metastasis of many cancers including cancers of the prostate, bladder, colon, cervix, liver, and lung (NSCLC). It is a target of estrogen receptor-mediated gene repression and is downregulated in primary human breast cancer. May be a prognostic marker for lung cancer and tumor metastatic potential. Interacts with cell surface proteins including integrins, cadherins, CD4, CD8, IGSF8. Modulates EGFR signaling. May suppress invasion by inhibiting integrin-dependent crosstalk with c-Met receptor and Src kinases. Its regulation of c-Met signaling apparently affects cancer cell migration.
