Involved in increased proteasome activity in embryonic stem cells (ESCs) by activating expression of PSMD11 in ESCs, leading to enhanced assembly of the 26S proteasome, followed by higher proteasome activity. IR-induced cellular senescence induces progressive increases in FOXO4, but has little effect on FOXO1 and FOXO3 expression. Two splice-variant isoforms have been described.
