perilipin 1 (human)

perilipin 1 an adipocyte protein of the peripilin family. A modulator of adipocyte lipid metabolism, coating lipid storage droplets to protect them from being broken down by hormone-sensitive lipase. A major cAMP-dependent protein kinase-substrate in adipocytes, also dephosphorylated by PP1. When phosphorylated, may be maximally sensitive to HSL and when unphosphorylated, may play a role in the inhibition of lipolysis. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
