Tethering factor involved in autophagy. Involved in autophagosome maturation by promoting the autophagosome fusion with lysosomes: acts by associating with both the ATG5-ATG12 conjugate and phosphatidylinositol-3-phosphate (PtdIns(3)P) present at the surface of autophagosomes. Also involved in selective autophagy against bacterial pathogens, by being required for phagophore/preautophagosomal structure biogenesis and maturation. Interacts with ATG5; the interaction is direct. Interacts with WIPI2. Interacts with the ATG5-ATG12 conjugate, the interaction is however mutually exclusive with ATG16, since it does not interact with ATG12-ATG5-ATG16 complex. Belongs to the TECPR1 family. 4 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
