Cadherins are calcium dependent cell adhesion proteins. They preferentially interact with themselves in a homophilic manner in connecting cells; cadherins may thus contribute to the sorting of heterogeneous cell types. Interacts with PCDH8. Expressed mainly in brain but also found in other tissues. Expressed in neuroblasts. 2 isoforms of the human protein are produced by alternative splicing. Note: This description may include information from UniProtKB.
Protein type: Cell adhesion; Membrane protein, integral; Motility/polarity/chemotaxis
